SMACNA-AB SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM 2026

The Sheet Metal Contractors Association of Alberta (“SMACNA-AB”) scholarships are designed to help our full-member company employees achieve their apprenticeship as sheet metal workers.

For 2026, eight scholarships, each valued at $1,000, are available for application!
These scholarships are open to sheet metal apprentices of all years, provided they are
employed by a SMACNA-AB member in Alberta.

Eight (8) One Thousand ($1,000.00) scholarships will be awarded to eight (8) applicants based on the following criteria:

  1. Applicant must be currently (at the time of submission and award) employed by a member company in good standing with SMACNA-AB
  2. The member company must apply on employees'/apprentices’ behalf either by mail or by email to [email protected]
  3. The member company must submit a letter of recommendation for the applicant
  4. Applicant must have attended sheet metal apprenticeship training and passed all provincial requirements in the Alberta Apprenticeship Program; a copy of the apprentice’s transcript must be included with the application.
  5. The applicant must have enrolled in the apprenticeship training program during any intakes between April 2025 and February 2026.

UPDATE AS 04.23.26 -Apprentices who attended apprenticeship training between February 1 and April 10, 2026, are INCLUDED and eligible for this scholarship intake.

  6. All applications must be submitted to SMACNA-AB by May 15, 2026.
  7. Scholarships will be presented at the annual association golf tournament in Calgary on June 24. However, as of April 23, 2026, the Edmonton tournament has been rescheduled to September, which affects the scholarship presentation plan.

The scholarship cheque presentations were originally scheduled to take place at the June tournament. With the tournament now moved to September, we do not feel it is appropriate to ask recipients to wait that long. Instead, once the recipients have been selected, members of the Edmonton Executive will arrange to present the cheques individually at each recipient’s place of employment, at a time convenient for both the employer and employee.

  8. Your application must be complete; incomplete applications will be automatically removed from the selection process.

SELECTION PROCESS

A committee made up of SMACNA-AB members will select recipients. Recipients will be chosen based on employer recommendations and the successful completion of apprenticeship training.
