National Energy Code for Buildings (NECB) 2011

2014 Alberta Building Code & National Energy Code for Buildings

The 2014 edition of the Alberta Building Code was adopted at the end of February 2015 by provincial legislation.  This is a reminder that all applications received after November 1, 2015 must be designated to the 2014 Alberta Building Code.  To ensure permit processing is not delayed:

1. Confirm drawings, and all suppliers drawings (roof truss, floor joist, guardrails etc.) are updated to reference 2014 and Limit States Design

2. Remove references to 2005 NBC, 2010 NBC, 2006 ABC, etc.

3. Update all references on drawings to the proper 2014 articile numbers.  Numbers may not be the same in the new Code.

Also adopted by regulation is the National Energy Code for Buildings (NECB) 2011 edition.  The transition period begins November 1, 2015.  The 2014 Alberta Building Code and the 2011 National Energy code for Buildings are available from the National Research Council both online and in hard copy.National Energy Code Website Link
