A Message from our
Executive Director
Welcome to the NEW Sheet Metal Contractors Association of Alberta (SMACNA-AB) website.
The Sheet Metal Contractors Association of Alberta (SMACNA-AB) was formed in 2020 through the amalgamation of two longstanding organizations: the Calgary Air Conditioning and Sheet Metal Association (CASMA) and the Edmonton Air Conditioning and Sheet Metal Association (EASMAC). This merger brought together decades of expertise, fostering a unified community dedicated to advancing Alberta’s sheet metal and air conditioning industry.
As we mark 25 years as a proud provincial association, this milestone reminds us of the strength and dedication of our members who have built and supported this industry over the decades. We hope the resources and insights shared here continue to serve as a valuable asset for your businesses.
Looking ahead, we are filled with hope for the future and the possibility of gathering our members again in solidarity to strengthen our industry. This is not just a new beginning for SMACNA-AB but an opportunity to continue growing and supporting our members in more innovative ways.
The construction industry is a multibillion-dollar sector of Alberta’s economy that creates thousands of jobs for Albertans. Payment timelines for Alberta’s construction industry, along with timelines for filing liens and rules for adjudication in the event of a payment dispute, are outlined in the Prompt Payment and Construction Lien Act, the Prompt Payment and Adjudication Regulation and the Prompt Payment and Construction Lien Forms Regulation.
SMACNA-AB is proud to have worked alongside the Alberta Trade Contractors Coalition (ATCC) since 2011 to advocate for prompt payment legislation. Our collective efforts were instrumental in getting this crucial legislation enacted, ensuring fair and timely payment practices for contractors and trade professionals across Alberta.
Together with the ATCC, we also successfully lobbied Alberta Industry Training (AIT) to reinstate period exams for apprenticeships, which had been cancelled during COVID-19. While AIT initially sought to remove the exams permanently, our advocacy ensured their return, preserving an essential component of apprenticeship programs in Alberta.
Here’s to celebrating 25 years of SMACNA-AB and to building a brighter future together!
